about

The central theme, music, and image for 'Home' revolves around a longing for something that we as humans will never achieve. We are all empty and broken in some form or another, so we look for fulfilment through things like money, sex, relationships, drugs, religion, and a variety of other things, but we in the end ultimately remain void of any true happiness . What we are really searching for, is the innocence of a child, which knows nothing about this world and since we are incapable of ever getting that back, the only place we can find this comfort is inevitably only through death. The little girl on the cover represents this final resting place for us – beyond our existence in this world. And the album title sums it up once you realize she doesn't have to experience all the pain and sorrow of becoming an adult. 'Home' evokes this melancholic blissful state within the listener and as you spend more time becoming familiar her picture, you begin to see the music reflecting her being in this condition, reflected in her face seemingly close to smiling. It is the death of innocence.

"Numenorean are a young band; their forthcoming LP, Home, is their debut, and it’s preceded only by a two-song demo released in 2014. Yet they do this stuff with rare confidence and craftsmanship; their songs shift terrains with fluidity, power, and grace, moving with furious speed to gorgeous melodic climaxes that somehow feel both unexpected as a car crash and inevitable as a sunrise. These tricks aren’t easy to pull off, but nobody listens to this kind of music for degree of difficulty; they listen because it’s stirring, evocative, exciting. They listen because it hits a nerve or a sweet spot or a deeply buried, deeply personal truth. And Numenorean hit hard." - www.stereogum.com/1881698/numenorean-thirst-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/

"Numenorean are black metal saviors for a new generation. They are a band who transcend all the old rules, a band who punish you with raw volume but who also can craft things that are deliciously delicate. The sheer quality of the songwriting here forces you to return time and time again for no other reason than that Numenorean have conceived perhaps the most all encompassing and well developed black metal releases since Spectral Lore's III." - www.metalinjection.net/reviews/numenorean-home

"Home is more than just a fitting debut release from a talented band. It’s a complete idea, a story from start to finish that comes ’round full circle. It’s not often that listeners get to go on a journey through such a beautifully crafted musical world, but Numenorean are worthy of their Tolkien-inspired roots. It’s not an easy album to get through, as its complexity makes for a draining listening experience. But at its core is an intelligent and moving piece of musical genius that expects patience from its listener — and the payoff is more than worth the price of admission." - www.metalsucks.net/2016/07/11/review-numenoreans-home-will-searching-shelter/

"Home is meant to address death and loss as the frightening realities that they are, and unfortunately for too many, the loss of a beloved child is their reality. I believe, contrary to the artist, that Home is not just about the bleakness of despair and hopelessness. Listening I get the complete antithesis of this, with anthem-like melodies that elicit hope in the face of lachrymose tribulation. Home may revolve thematically around the crux of despair, but what is woke in me and my experience is the aftermath of tragedy; rebuilding. Numenorean have given us a gift, relate to it how you may." - metalhangover.wordpress.com/2016/07/22/numenorean-home/

"There are these marvellous moments in a reviewers existence, where you dig up a gem in between the noise and a record of a previously unknown band becomes a serious contender for the year lists (and it’s July already..." - metal-exposure.com/cd-reviews/album-reviews-2016/numenorean-home/

about

Numenorean Calgary, Alberta

The pain of life's journey does not relent. It beats against the soul's shores until the spirit is eroded. The child dies smiling, in the bliss of eternal unknowing. Comfort is found in the abyss. The destination seems bleak, ingrained deep within us. In its depths, we find what we have known all along: 'Home'. ... more
